Camping Safety

Before leaving

Check the forecast, campsite rules, access restrictions and emergency arrangements. Tell a trusted person your plan where appropriate. Bring suitable clothing, water, food and location-specific supplies. General camping accessories are not rescue equipment or a substitute for an emergency plan.

Shelter and site layout

Choose permitted, stable ground and avoid routes where water may collect. Follow the actual shelter instructions and inspect attachment points, poles and fastenings. Keep lines visible and walking paths clear. Do not assume a tent or tarp is suitable for extreme weather because of its shape or image.

Heat, flame and ventilation

Keep flames, hot equipment and fuel away from fabrics and sleeping areas. Never operate combustion equipment inside a tent or other enclosed space. Follow local fire restrictions and the instructions for any separately owned cooking equipment. Do not use a kitchen item with a heat source unless its supplied guidance permits it.

Seating and tables

Set furniture on level, stable ground, open it fully and check that the supports are secure. Follow the supplied load and use limits. Do not stand on a chair or table or use it as climbing equipment. Keep fingers clear of moving joints while folding.

Lighting and night movement

Place a lantern where it cannot easily fall or obstruct an exit. Follow its power and charging instructions and protect it from conditions beyond its stated limits. Carry appropriate lighting for moving around after dark and keep campsite paths clear.

Inspect and pause when unsure

Check equipment before each use and stop using an item with damaged joints, torn attachment points or another safety concern. Contact support if an instruction is missing or a product detail is unclear. Leave the campsite tidy and follow local rules for waste and wildlife.
